While you're pondering that question let's consider a couple of publishing cliches. Everyone has a book in them AND You should write about what you know The answer to the question is 'yes you could write an inspiring book' As to the cliches, well sayings become cliches because they contain a grain of truth. So now you know its possible to write a book how do you do it? The challenge is to find the book that is within you. And to make the book a well-written one that helps you or your business in some way. One thing that is certain is that when we write about what we know, what we're passionate about and good at, then we have a far greater chance of writing a great book, a bestseller even. So how about those bestsellers, how did they do it? As a commissioning editor, I worked on the books of many bestselling authors, including John Gray, Phil McGraw, Suze Orman, Tony Buzan, and Dr Atkins. Over the years, I noticed that the authors of bestselling books have 7 things in common: 1/ They knew exactly who their readers were 2/ They based their writing on their expertise or life experience 3/ They developed a great title and concept 4/ They made a bold, deliverable promise 5/ Their idea was unique to them in some way - either a fresh spin on an old idea or an entirely new idea. 6/ They knew how best to encapsulate their idea and developed a great pitch that won publishers over 7/ They were prepared to build a platform for the book and go out and promote it. We can all do it, the key is getting the right help so that you maximise your chances of making a good start and not waste time or get stressed in the process. In association with leading coach Suzy Greaves and literary agent, Kirsty McLachlan we've developed a course that can take you through the writing and pitching process. Find out how to write your own self-help book on a 4 week tele-course How to Write a Self Help Book (http://www.thebig-leap.com/how_to_write_a_self_help_book.phtml) starts 11th November. |
