Don’t You Want me? is her second novel."There are very few novels that humorously reflect witty, urbane, capable thirtysomething women’s concerns and experiences. Some try, but I haven’t yet come across one that doesn’t rely on the search for an improbably saturnine-yet-tender Mr. Right as its central premise. (If you’ve got your man already, this is not as thrilling to read about as it might be.) I am not excited by the other kind of ‘woman’s book’ either, in which Fey, cerebral author lurches in state of semi-hysteria from one emotional crisis to another, frail, flower-like neck wobbling around trying to carry pumpkin-like weight of superior, outsize brain." Don't You Want MeStella is a 35 year old single mother to Honey. A single mother who isn’t having sex and whose available options include a (homophobic) Ali G lookalike, a plastic surgeon that makes Austin Powers look reserved, a creepy neighbour whose wife is away and ginger hair-covered lodger Frank (who is shagging her mate anyway). What is a girl to do...? Readers' Comments: Predictable, but no less funny for it. Her character sketches will make you giggle, and her observations of local mothers will make you nod with recognition, even if the plot is glaring obvious from page one. Paula Dique.
