She might not be the family favourite, but Lauren Weisberger's books have certainly ticked all the right boxes for us. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, after graduating with a BA in English form Cornell University, she went from travelling round with nothing but a backpack and a tub of Nutella, to working as the assistant to the Editor-in-chief of Vogue. It is no wonder then that her most famous book, The Devil Wears Prada, is packed with so many expertly arranged designer brands, a genuine fear of Miranda Priestly that could only stem from her time at Vogue, and in good old fashioned American style, a strong moral message. Having learned the many different words for ‘trousers’ and how to compliment someone whist insulting them at the same time, she then decided to write for the exclusive Departures magazine, giving herself enough time in the evenings to tell us all about the real backstage happenings at a major fashion magazine.

Following the great sensation and screenplay version of The Devil Wears Prada, Lauren’s latest books, Chasing Harry Winston and Everyone Worth Knowing are compliments to her growing success. She is without a doubt an author whose books promise many references to money, designer outfits and gorgeous men, and how to chose the right path when faced with all this.

Chasing Harry Winston

On the brink of their thirties, Emmy, Adrianna and Leigh are running out of time. Leigh is locked in a relationship that might seem perfect, but is moving too suddenly for her. Emmy has just been dumped for a 23 year old virgin by a man she wasted 5 years on. Adrianna is worried her beauty is fading and the pressures to stop her party-girl lifestyle and find a man who loves her for more than just her exotic looks is becoming too much. One night and one too many raspberry mojitos and a pact is made. A delightfully refreshing story following the lives and loves of three girls trying to become the women they out to be by now. Chasing Harry Winston will remind you that no matter your age, it’s never too late to discover what you desire. As usual for the glamorous Lauren Weisberger, this book is packed with glorious clothing, fearless heroines and a lot of rather humorous obscenities.

The Devil Wears Prada

Straight out of College, Andrea Sachs has landed the job ‘a million girls would die for’. As junior assistant to the notorious Miranda Priestly, Andrea gets swallowed in a world where it is acceptable to wear leather pants to work, charge anything to your Runway card and ‘borrow’ designer clothing from the Closet whenever you need. But behind the glamour are Miranda’s hellish demands at every hour of the night, trying not to get fired for buying the wrong type of lunch meat, and the knowledge that your friends are never going to understand why your boss-from-hell comes first, no matter what the occasion.

As Andrea’s work life consumes the little time left she has for her friends, you’ll actually flinch as the Dragon Lady herself pushes Andrea further and further until she starts to wonder whether her ‘big break’ is worth losing the people she could share it with.

This book is perfect for reading if you’ve ever felt underappreciated/ over worked or just love anything designer!

Everyone Worth Knowing

A fabulous look at life when you’re catapulted from the boring to the beautiful. This book makes a wonderful light read, with Lauren Weisberger’s exceptional characters filling the pages with their larger-than-life personalities…until it all starts going wrong for Bette and she relinquishes her privacy and suddenly finds herself on the front pages of Newspapers snogging men who only-want-one-thing.

But the glow of the fabulous life starts to dim as Bette finds herself changing, and not necessarily for the better. When the time comes to hang up her Gucci shoes, can she really say goodbye to the life of a star? A totally page turn-able read that leaves you feeling good that your not Paris Hilton, and not many books can claim that.
