| Ruth Saberton's agent nearly crashed the car when Ruth told her Richard Madley had read and liked her latest book, Katy Carter Wants A Hero. "They have a house in the next village and Richard hikes over to the paper shop when they are down. I left my novel for him and to my amazement they read it by the pool, called me that evening and Richard came over the next day for a chat. He was kind enough to write me a review and has said that I can use it to promote the book. ..He is a really lovely genuine man and very humble too when you consider what a big celebrity he is." Ruth uses her Cornish background to great effect. She lives in Polperro and is married to a Cornish fisherman. (like Katy Carter she was a Londoner). Ruth met her husband when she was on holiday and pretty much it was love at first sight. She relocated weeks later to the horror of her parents! "Guy in the novel shares some of my husband's traits. Polperro is the inspiration for Tregowan - the Cornish fishing village Katy runs away to in the story - and it's a great source of material. Where else could you have a tarot reading postman and a morris dancing chemist as well as A list celebs all mingling?" Ruth also writes for Little Black Dress and Working Partners as Jessica Fox (Hen Night Prophecies) but Katy Carter Wants a Hero is her first novel under her own name. Ruth's own website is here. Katy Carter Wants A Hero ![]() Buy Now I must admit that I am a sucker for books about writers, it just helps me bond with the heroine straight away. Not that Katie needs it, as she is such a sympathetic character from the beginning, if a bit of a door-mat. Of course, part of her journey is the not only her romantic adventures, but also finding her own strength and we love that. The plot may have been slightly predictable, but Saberton's strength lies in her characterisation of both leading and supporting figures. She's got a great mix of some humorous set pieces, passages to make you cringe in terrible recogntion ("I have been there"), and a way with dialogue. I'd love to see this on the big, or even small screen. And of course, her novel within a novel, the smouldering historical romance, adds another layer to the charm of Katy Carter Wants a Hero. |
