| Stay Warm and Sexy This Winter |
by Sue Donnelly of http://www.accentuate.me.uk It’s that time of year again – grey skies, freezing temperatures, rain, sleet and snow. It’s all a girl can do to get out of bed in the morning. But winter time doesn’t mean that you have to pile on the layers like the proverbial Michelin man. All that bulk can make even the most attractive woman feel dowdy and over weight. It’s easy to keep warm and look sexy if you know what to do. 1. Cheer up with Colour. Black is one of the key trends this season but not the only one. There is a myriad of wonderful, rich, exotic colours in the shops this year. Make the most of them. If you’re looking for a new coat or jacket, think about ruby, aubergine, dark teale or chocolate as an alternative. If your black coat can last another winter, add some vibrancy with a scarf or a handbag in a shade that really cheers you up. Or why not go mad and buy two? 2. Go Au-Naturel. No, I don’t mean go naked but steal your ideas from nature. This is the time of year when animals are glad of their thick fur coats. I’m not suggesting you opt for the real thing but choose instead from the wonderful sheepskins and faux fur items on offer. Glam up an old top with a faux fur shrug, wear a sheepskin jacket with a silk skirt or team a fur tippet with a sexy dress for real warmth and style. 3. Mix Your Textures. For an eccentric, elegant look try mixing a heavy knit cardigan or sweater with a sparkly camisole instead of a plain T-shirt. A velvet dress looks fabulous with satin shoes. Try wearing a tweed skirt with a lace top to get away from the Miss Marple look and bring it bang up to date. 4. Be Dramatic. If you want style and warmth with a twist, opt for a cape instead of a coat. The cropped versions look fantastic with a pencil skirt or jeans. 5. Add Glamour. Accessories can lift an old outfit and make it look sensational. So if you’re short of cash, invest in a bit of glamour. Wear a huge ring with a colourful stone, exotic earrings, an ethnic necklace, a sparkly, skinny scarf, a metallic belt, an unusual handbag or a killer pair of shoes to make your own style statement. Don’t over do it though or it can look tawdry not chic. 6. Stay streamlined. It’s second nature to throw on a big, thick woolly when it’s freezing outside. A more flattering way to wear wool is to layer thinner items on top of one another. Not only does it make you look slimmer but it also keeps you warmer. 7. Luxuriate. Cashmere feels SOOO good against the skin and this is the perfect time to wear it. Cashmere is now available at really affordable prices, so there’s no excuse not to indulge. You can even find cashmere pyjamas – perfect for lounging around the house in a sexy, hostess way. 8. Hats Off. Most of our heat is lost through the head so wearing a hat is a stylish way to stay warm. There are so many styles to choose from at the moment - flat cap, Russian fur, beret, cloche and so on. Select one that goes with your mood and your personality and watch heads turn. 9. Boots Are Made For Walking. Boots are brilliant for keeping the feet and legs warm. But what about wearing them in a sexy way? Instead of strappy sandals, team velvet boots with a satin skirt or cocktail dress. Or go for a metallic leather. You’ll definitely be noticed. 10. Hose Yourself Down. There’s nothing worse than seeing a pair of lily-white, goose-bumpy legs so that’s why it’s a pleasure to see so many different styles of hose around. Woolly or ribbed tights are lovely and warm to wear. They may not seem sexy but can be made to look chic if teamed with a pair of high wedges or some sexy boots. |
